I'm still trying to figure that one out. I don't think I discarded it and I've retraced my steps and can't find it.
Took out DeadLift pretty easily on my own, dying only once against him. Jack's digital clones came in REALY handy in that fight! 
I think our trouble came more from: OMG! NEW BORDERLANDS!! I FORGETZ HOW 2 PLAY!! BUT OMG!! NEW BORDERLANDS!!! 
I just got a gun called: "The Thick Rod" ...

Don't take ClapTrap's not needing Oxygen to breathe for granted! When you play a human character, it gives a whole different dynamic to the game!!
Shooting Lunatics in the head and popping their oxygen masks now takes on a different meaning altogether, and makes doing it that much cooler crueler!

Don't worry, I don't. I snicker when I see the oxygen machine.
I now possess a Nova Shield! You can either join me as Handsome Jack --or-- if you don't want to fight beside the "Bad Guy" i'll let you know when I reach Concordia and can put the shield in the vault and can retrieve it as ClapTrap!

The chest is there, in plain sight, inside a larger cargo crate, but I cannot open it! You should go back and see if you can!

Travo, I am working on that little snafu we ran into with that Nova Shield quest. Since I joined you mid-quest, it recorded your progress as my own, meaning I am stuck too...
I have a work around though! I started a New Game with a certain "Handsome" man. When I get to the part where I can accpet that quest again, I'll either ask you to join me then --OR-- I'll store it in the Vault in Concordia so we can retrieve it as the "Traps!"
